This little light of mine: understanding emotional violence
Unconditional Love for the Inner Geek Child
In my house we have a motto, Embrace the Geek. It's a pledge to be ourselves, to be truthful and let our inner spaz out, to relax and have fun and embrace opportunities to be totally, unapologetically, geeky.
Its not an easy task all the time. We all have emotional scarring that can prevent us from feeling safe around others, if we don't deal with it. Shyness is sometimes the first hint that you've been hurt emotionally in the past. Shyness is a habit of keeping your light out of view of people who might be completely uplifted by it, if you only let it shine.
Emotional violence is not just experienced in adult relationships. Emotional violence is often done by a parent to child, priming that child for future relationships that continue the suffering.
In relationships, emotional violence usually begins long before the physical hurting. Even after leaving the bad relationship, the voice that was planted in your head is free to continue to hurt and crush you.
Emotional violence is the range of mental and verbal attacks that will eventually convince you that you do not have the right, nor the value, to contribute your special brand of geekiness to the world.
