A Miraculous Save
Creative Soul Recovery Workshop
Acrylic on Canvas
On my way to teach a Workshop in Tofino, I had a very close brush with danger. A old broken tree had fallen across the road, and at such an angle that it was completely invisible in the dark. I drove into it, and watched in terror as it streaked across my view, scraped my side window and pierced the door behind me, shattering the glass and completely destroyed the side of my van. What was interesting at that moment was that I was praying to my grandmother when the tree hit my vehicle… praying to be reawakened to my own love and inspiration, because I was in a grieving rut and hitting the doldrums. This canvas was the only one in the vehicle that was marked by the incident, having a slight chew on the upper left corner. I started my own recovery painting with the 'wounded' part of the surface. embedded in the painting are bits of paper- my own written conversation about broken dreams and promises, things in my life that have been shattered and recovered many times.
